The Finnish-American Folk Festival presents:

Naselle, Washington

The Finnish American Folk Festival of Naselle is pleased to support our very own . . .

Naselle Finn-Am Choir

The Naselle Finn-Am Choir draws members from the Finnish-American community, local church choirs, and talented members from Naselle, Astoria, and the Long Beach Peninsula . . . as well as former residents.

The choir debuted at the first Finnish-American Folk Festival of Naselle in 1982 under the direction of Dennis Crabb; Karen Saari Nelson has directed it; and the choir continues under the inspiring directorship of “honorary Finn,” Pastor Cliff Weimer. Cliff farms, enjoys his children and grandchildren, drives school bus, and pastors the Naselle Lutheran Church. Cliff has always been a singer and soloist, has performed in choirs as part of the group, as soloist, and also as director of many outstanding choirs. His work ethic, his relaxed manner, and his humor, all supported by his lovely wife Kaye, leads to a fun time for all . . . and a good sound.

Pastor Cliff continues to surprise and inspire the singers.

The choir helps anchor the festival, singing in both Finnish and English, moving from Finnish standards to gospel songs. Although many members have a Finnish-American background, few still speak Finnish at home, so it is always a challenge to learn the language in addition to the music.

Carol Alves has served as the accompanist for the choir since its inception, with Karen Nelson as her “back up.” Carol is a talented pianist who keeps the choir in tune and on time. She and her daughter Julie offerred an unforgettable duet at an earlier festival. Carol has brought music to many in our community, through piano lessons, her solo efforts, and her skillful accompaniment. She encourages a love of music not only to her children and grandchildren but also to many of the community adults and children.
