The Finnish-American Folk Festival presents:

Naselle, Washington

The Finnish American Folk Festival of Naselle is pleased to announce . . .

The Evergreen Kanteles

Directed by Satu Mikkola, The Evergreen Kanteles began when Satu moved to the greater Seattle area — and created the group. They are joining other kantele players in presenting the Kantele Mass Saturday afternoon as well as performing for us that night.

The musicians perform on big kanteles (from 29-39 strings) as well as five- and ten-string kanteles. The group sponsored the visit of Arja Kastinen earlier this year, the first person to ever receive a doctorate in kantele studies. Last summer, the group traveled with Livakat to Finland to present the same Kantele Mass they premiered at the Naselle/ Astoria FFUSA ’06. They toured the southern part of Finland for two weeks, presenting their mass to welcoming audiences and warm acclaim.
